May 2010 – CEO Tina Baker recently spoke at the Greater Women’s Business Council (GWBC) 10-year anniversary celebration. This annual meeting delivered GWBC’s 2009 year in review along with historical milestones over the past nine years and goals for 2010 and beyond. The meeting provided attendees with an environment to build key business relationships with corporate and WBE businesses, education about GWBC guiding principles, and strategic plans to grow the organization.
Included was a BRAVO meeting designed for women businesses to gain more insight about the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) national forum and local forum here at GWBC named The Voice.
CEO Baker spoke on the recent proposed ruling from the Small Business Administration which will set aside 83 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes for women-owned small businesses. She also explained the Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) organization and how people can get involved.
Also in April, Ms. Baker was selected by ARMA International, the Association for Information Management Professionals, to speak at the 2010 ARMA Southeast Region Educational Conference. Ms. Baker’s topic was Developing an International Records Retention Policy and Schedule where she addressed the global business environment and records management pressures facing companies that have an international reach. Discussion issues included balancing risk and cost in developing such a policy and schedule, strategic decisions you need to make when planning your project, and ways to most effectively manage the variations in legal requirements for different countries.
