On July 29, Cadence Group President and CEO Tina Teree Baker’s spoke at an Atlanta ChallengeHER event on her experience in federal contracting. The event was hosted by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), American Express OPEN (OPEN) and Georgia State University Small Business Development Center, and gave WOSB federal contractors a unique opportunity to:

  • Learn about the WOSB Set Aside and how to market your business under this program
  • Contract Officers explain how to do business with their agency and the federal government in general
  • Benefit from the experience of women contractors on best practices and real-life stories
  • Get contracting advice and learn about resources in your local community
  • Participate in MatchMaking with federal buyers
  • Network with peer mentors and other women business owned firms

Ms. Baker gave an exciting legislative update from Women Impacting Public Policy announcing that the SBA proposed a new rule authorizing certified Woman Owned Small Businesses (WOSBs) to qualify for sole source contracts like other small business set asides.   She is hoping to see the program implemented by the federal government before year end.
